When Rachel and Ryan purchased Rachel’s childhood home, they faced an unexpected challenge—a massive basement flood caused by sump pump failure. Instead of simply repairing the damage, they saw an opportunity to completely rethink the space. Their goal was twofold: update the rec room to better suit their growing family’s needs and modernize the apartment to attract high-quality tenants.
The apartment was transformed from an outdated, cramped space into a modern, functional home. The dark, confined kitchen was brightened by reducing the bulkhead, adding custom floating shelves, and using vertically stacked green tiles to create the illusion of height, complemented by elegant details like a champagne faucet and walnut handles. A functional mudroom with classic penny tiles, a pull-out hanger closet, and a built-in storage bench improved organization. The bathroom was revamped with marble-look tiles, a curbless shower, and a glass enclosure for a more spacious, luxurious feel. Additionally, a dedicated home office and an updated laundry area with smart storage solutions addressed the growing need for remote work and efficient daily living. These thoughtful upgrades created an open, stylish, and highly functional space any tenant would love to call home.
Rachel and Ryan transformed their outdated rec room into a stylish, multi-functional hub for entertaining, relaxing, working, and playing. The dated bar was replaced with new cabinetry, a sleek quartz countertop, gold hardware, and a convenient glass washer for Rachel, all framed by wood paneling that complemented durable, water-resistant luxury vinyl flooring. The fireplace was brightened with painted stone and a sanded natural wood mantel, restoring warmth and character. Storage was enhanced with a stylish arched nook and a refreshed built-in cabinet, while cozy family and dedicated play areas created spaces for relaxation and fun. The result is a practical, inviting basement that has become the heart of their home.
